Who needs spokes?

I like this. It’s the creation of some fundamentally wacky yet inherently genius engineering boffins at a company called Amen. It features this awe inspiring spoke-less design from these ‘Orbital Wheels’ achieved by fixing a rotating tire, internal brake ring and bearings to the outer side of a fixed hubless rim, which in turn is secured to the forks at the front and swingarm at the rear.

If you don’t believe it works, check out this video of it in action. I can’t imagine it’s cheap or maintainable or practical or reliable or affordable, but it looks very cool. You’ve got to reckon it won’t be too long until people are buying their bike insurance for motorcycles without spokes – after all we did see something similar on the massively sexy Honda V4 concept last year.
