Italian former multiple champion Alex Polita will make his debut in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship this season with the Jentin Doodson Motorsport team and we caught up with 'The Pirate' for some quick fire questions ahead of pre-season testing.
What interests you away from the track?
I am very passionate about cycling and motocross; I do both of these several times a week.
Why are you called Il Pirata?
This is a long history - I can tell you that you will all find out soon!
How have you been preparing for the start of the season?
I'm training a lot and the preparation is going very well for this season.
What are you most looking forward to about BSB?
It is a very important championship that I have always followed, so this is a dream come true for me. I am very happy to have been welcomed so warmly by the fans of the championship. I hope to repay them very soon.
How excited are you about riding the new Panigale?
I have been involved with the development of the bike in Italy already and I'm sure working with my team we could do very well.
Which BSB circuit are you most looking forward to riding?
I am very interested to ride at Cadwell Park; the jump with a Ducati Panigale seems exciting. Haha!
What is your biggest achievement so far in your career?
I have had many successes ... I like to think that each one has a special value.
What are your hopes for 2012?
I hope to work well with my team and then success will come as a result.
There is a lot of competition in BSB, how do you feel about racing against these riders?
The riders are very experienced and very strong. I think we will be close after the first rounds.
How different is BSB to the previous championships you have raced in?
A lot ... there are many races and many possibilities to make mistakes or be successful.
