Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship
For Richard Cooper it was a happy return from injury to the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship as he powered his Jentin BMW onto pole start ahead of the leader in the title stakes, Jon Kirkham.
Cooper had set his best time in the opening session, lapping in 1m 30.132secs, but his efforts to better that ended with a tumble in the closing moments, but even so Kirkham, also riding BMW was not able to take advantage, with his best lap coming in 1m 30.237secs.
Tristan Palmer, going into this round jointly second in the title stakes, made it an all BMW front row as he lapped within half a second of Cooper while Glen Richards headed up the second row aboard the Padgetts Honda with Scott Smart a strong fifth, 1m 30.931secs, just ahead of BMW riding Scot Jimmy Storrar.
Barry Burrell put his Buildbase Kawasaki at the head of the third row, 1m 31.009secs from Luke Quigley, Formwise-Astro BMW, and Kenny Gilbertson riding Sorrymate.com Honda.
James Hillier, lapping in 1m 31.392secs, was on the fourth row with his Bournemouth Kawasaki just ahead of Steve Plater making a return to racing at his home circuit, on the HM Plant Honda, after being seriously injured in a heavy crash at the NorthWest 200 back in May.
Victor Cox completed that row with his Blackhorse Kawasaki with John McGuinness on the Padgetts Honda having Lee Jackson, Buildbase Kawasaki, and joint second in the title stakes Howie Mainwaring on the Colchester Kawasaki.
David Anthony, Jonathan Howarth and Sam Warren were on the sixth row ahead of Michael Booth, Billy Mellor and Matthew Whitman on an overflowing 36 bike grid that left four riders missing the cut.
Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship
John Simpson put his Trickbits/T3 Triumph onto pole start for the Metzeler National 600 Superstock Championship thanks to his time set in the dry of the first session in which he powered in a best time of 1m 32.100secs.
The size of the entry meant a split of riders into two groups, but the first qualifying session for Group A started in the damp, and it the grid was decided on the basis of the fastest overall qualifier from the two groups taking pole - Simpson ran in Group B which was run in the dry.
Jimmy Hill ran fastest in Group A with a time of 1m 35.501secs which put alongside Simpson as the slots on the starting grid alternated between the two groups with Josh Wainwright completing the front row on his AP Kawasaki.
Luke Stapleford headed up the second row on the Bournemouth Kawasaki from second in the points ahead of this race Danny Buchan riding a similar machine in the colours of Team Green MSS Colchester and Yamaha riding Dominic Usher.
Behind them Nikki Coates, Cody Nally and Johnny Blackshaw lined up with series leading Josh Day leaving himself plenty of work to do as he started his AIR Yamaha from the fourth row, having recorded a best time of 1m 36.308secs - his hopes of improvement dashed by more rain falling in the Sunday morning second session. Matt Bilton and Connor Behan were alongside him.
Adam Lyon, Grant Whitaker and James East were on the fifth row ahead of Liam Lyon, Daniel Kinloch and Freddie Russo who slid off at Coppice on Sunday morning, but soon continued.
Nicole McAleer, who crashed heavily at Barn in the first session, briefly unconscious, was airlifted to hospital at Lincoln for a precautionary scan and observation, and was ruled out of the race.
SpeedyRetail.com British 125GP Championship
Rob Guiver claimed pole start for the SpeedyRetail.com British 125GP race after a hard fought first session duel with the rider he trails in the title stakes James Lodge. There was little more than a third of a second between them, with Guiver putting in the decisive lap in 1m 35.034secs while Lodge saw his hopes of nosing ahead ended in the second session when he slid off at the Gooseneck.
Edward Rendell, one of the few riders to improve his time between session, chipping off half a second, to complete the front row line-up, comfortably clear of a pack of four ACU Academy Cup riders, the fastest of which was Sam Hornsey with a time of 1m 36.167secs, to be ahead of Deane Brown and Fraser Rogers who relegated John McPhee to the third row by three tenths of a second.
Taylor Mackenzie was sandwiched between McPhee and Philip Wakefield while Andrew Reid, another Cup runner, headed the fourth row from Shaun Horsman and Matthew Paulo. Jon Vincent, Lee Jackson and Wayne Ryan were lined up adrift of them with Amie Shelton on the sixth row alongside Matthew Davies and Nigel Percy who had tumbled in the closing moments of the second session.
The 33 strong starting grid again had its usual mix of youth and experience, and it was another teenage Cup rider Bradley Hughes who headed the seventh row from Ben Barrett and Kyle Ryde. Catherine Green was on the eighth row in company with Tom Weeden and James Ford while the second member of the Mackenzie family, Tarran, was back on the tenth row.
Henderson Harley-Davidson XR1200 Trophy
Jeremy McWilliams, no surprise, was on pole for the final action in the Henderson Harley Davidson XR1200 Trophy - the former Grand Prix rider put in a lap of 1m 40.322secs, an average speed of 78.22mph midway through the session to head off the ever present challenges of Mike Edwards who ran within 0.168secs of him.
James Webb completed the front row line-up, though some 0.881secs down on the leading duo while Dijon Compton, a faller in free practice, headed the second row with a lap in 1m 41.534secs to be comfortably clear of both Darren James and Alex Gault.
Torquil Paterson ran seventh fastest, 1m 42.788secs, to be on the third row which featured series debutant Guy Martin who had outrun Ed Smith by a quarter of a second.
Warren Scott, despite a tumble at Chris Curve towards the end of the session, was on the fourth row alongside Rhys Boyd and Gary Byrne with Rob McNealy, Michael Niblett, another to tip off in free practice, and Julian Tillotson.
Joe Moore, Gordon Grigor and Glen English started from the sixth row with Bruce Wilson, John Robb, and Matt Durrans adrift of them while Bernie Price was at the back of the pack of the 22 strong grid.
