Two races at Donington Park next weekend (7/8/9 September) now separate the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship contenders from the Showdown and whilst defending champion Tommy Hill, Josh Brookes, Shane 'Shakey' Byrne and Michael Laverty have their position confirmed, there are two vital places remaining and eight riders can still claim them.
Supersonic BMW's Tommy Bridewell is currently holding the fifth position in the overall standings ahead of the next round and despite not claiming a podium position yet this season for the Italian team, he has been consistently in the top five to hold a 17 point advantage over his nearest rival in sixth place.
At Cadwell Park Alex Lowes' storming performances elevated him inside the top six for the first time this season as he became the 14th different rider to move into the top six so far this season. The WFR Honda rider's podium finishing performance gives him just a six point advantage over Padgetts Honda Ian Lowry, who is one of the seven race winners this season, who in turn has a six point lead over Noriyuki Haga. The Swan Yamaha rider dropped out of the top six after he was sidelined at Cadwell Park however he is targeting a return to the Leicestershire circuit where he has previous claimed three World Superbike Championship victories and a podium finish.
Nine points adrift of Haga is the second WFR Honda of James Westmoreland, four points ahead of Oulton Park race winner Chris Walker and the Pr1mo Bournemouth Kawasaki team. The 'Stalker' has a five point margin over Tyco Suzuki's Alastair Seeley with Stuart Easton only mathematically possible of claiming the position for the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki team.
