Worx Crescent Suzuki's Tommy Hill leads the Showdown by 16 points but is heading to Silverstone for the penultimate round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship next weekend knowing that he can't afford to let his run of form slip if he wants to edge closer to a maiden BSB crown.
Hill edged out an advantage at Croft as some of his Title Fighter rivals suffered, but he knows that the standings could all still change with 125 points still up for the taking before the new champion is crowned at Oulton Park.
Hill said: "It's very close but it still feels good to have a bit of a lead. Obviously I am always thinking about the title and we want to be holding the trophy up at the end of the season, but you can't think too much about that. You have to get out there and get on with the racing.
"It is a new circuit for most of us, so I have to learn it fast, but it is good, wide and has lots more track to use. Josh Brookes has won there in Superstock and he and Kiyo have raced in the World Superbike there, so they should have an idea on set-up. I've just got to get up to speed and enjoy it.
"I keep telling myself that we have five races still to go and the last few have been good so now it is a push for more podiums. We nearly had the double at Croft and if all is going good at Silverstone we will be pushing for the race wins. We have to keep doing what we've done and this is being consistent, though now we do need podium finishes."
The next round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship is the penultimate round of the Showdown at Silverstone on 24/25/26 September. For more information visit www.silverstone.co.uk or call 0844 3750740.
