Take Control Rider Training partner MCE Insurance
Four Midlands counties now offer an improved range of free and subsidised training courses to motorcycle, scooter and moped riders; thanks to a new deal between two road safety partnerships and one of the UK's largest specialist motorcycle insurers.
Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership and the Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia have agreed a package of benefits with MCE Insurance for motorcyclists who live in, or travel through Warwickshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire.
The existing 'Take Control' rider training scheme already offers a choice of three free, half-day courses, to young and inexperienced riders looking to take the next step up from Compulsory Basic Training (CBT), or from an automatic machine to a geared bike.
Warwickshire County Council's Road Safety Officer, Stephen Rumble, explains;- "We are still concerned about the disproportionate number of motorcyclists involved in road traffic collisions. They make up about 1% of all road traffic, but more than 22% of all fatal and serious injury casualties on our roads. Any motorcyclist reading this should not assume we think that only they are to blame; many other road users still don't look twice, "Think Bike" or leave adequate room for bikes. But motorcyclists can help themselves by improving their machine control and sharpening their senses, through training".
MCE Insurance will now offer new motorcycle insurance policyholders a 10% discount on their annual premium after they have completed a full day of Take Control training.
Stephen Rumble continues;- "We will be launching the improved Take Control scheme by attending "Bike Meets" during April; this is where motorcyclists will regularly gather in large numbers. Our aim is to give motorcycle riders easy access to the best local training options, for little or no cost, with the added benefit of exclusive insurance discounts through MCE Insurance".
