MCE BIKER NEWS ARTICLE - 2024

Big Eds Blog - MCE BSB is Here!

MCE Insurance Every year the racing season seems to end earlier and start later, or so it felt for me! I spent the winter restlessly waiting for it to kick off again, every rider announcement or unveiling of new liveries just teased me more - I needed my MCE BSB fix!

Everyone at HQ had their opinions on how the season will play out - debates at the coffee machine became common about whose year it was going to be, usually instigated by me in a kind of group therapy way.

Well here we are, two rounds in and I thought it would be interesting to discuss how events have played out, who's exceeding expectations and who is falling below. It's something i'll aim to do throughout the series, to not only chronicle the championship, but also keep me busy waiting for my next racing fix!

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne started the 2015 MCE BSB series 4-time Champ, and 'striving for 5' by the end of the year. His pre-season testing was cut short sadly by a high side in Spain resulting in rather serious injuries hampering his bike-tinkering. However, at the end of April as it stands he is currently top of the Championship with 85 points, winning once and gaining three second places in his 4 races so far.

It is James Ellison who has forced 'Shakey' into that second place position all three times, having had an incredible start to the season leaving him only 6 points behind the current champ. The only blip so far in his otherwise faultless start was race two at Donington, in which he started from the back of the grid with battery issues. With words no doubt having been spoken with his race team he has bounced back and put on an incredible display at the Brands Hatch Indy last week. The question must be asked, is it going to be his season?

These are only two riders being discussed, however the depth of the grid is something that must be made clear, the likes of Josh Brookes and Ryuichi Kiyonari will undoubtedly be battling for a win, Kiyo surprisingly yet to bag a podium finish in 2015! Another rider worthy of a mention is Buchan, who has come into the season hungry to impress and in my eyes he certainly has thus far, I hope he can bag a podium this year, I'm sure he will!

With two weekends in and ten to go it's difficult to make assumptions on how the year will play out, there is every possibility that the winner may be someone not yet mentioned. It's the biggest ever MCE BSB for a reason, it will no doubt be full of surprises, thrills and spills! Me? I can't wait! I'm just waiting for my next fix!
