Big Eds Blog - The Showdown Six?
Today is the August 25th. Just let that sink in for a moment. This year has been an absolute whirlwind for me, I feel like I've just blinked and arrived here - already seven rounds of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship in with only five races left until the showdown six are confirmed.
Five races, one hundred and twenty-five points up for grabs!
That's absolutely barmy, we're heading to Cadwell Park this weekend where fifty of those points will be on the table with a number of riders looking to bag them.
Shane Byrne is looking stronger than ever on his Ducati, however Leon Haslam has been strong enough on his Kawasaki to keep within a reasonable distance and with five races remaining I wouldn't like to predict who will head into the showdown in the lead.
O'Halloran is in third with 38 points separating him from Michael Laverty. Linfoot and Cooper make up the current top six, however Ellison, Mossey, Iddon and Hickman are all in the top ten and within touching distance of a showdown spot.
In my honest opinion this has been the most competitive MCE BSB Championship in recent history, the level of talent and determination across the grid is overwhelming and 2016 has been an absolute pleasure to watch and to be part of.
Cadwell Park is this weekend and it's set to be an absolute scorcher - I have a few predictions under my helmet but I'm not going to jinx it - I've predicted results too many times this season and I've almost consistently been wrong! Don't get me wrong, I know my stuff, but it's just been one of those years - and I have no doubt that this weekend at Cadwell will be more of the same - and I can't wait!
