Guy Martin Faces Police Probe
Guy Martin is currently facing a police probe after his recent article in the Sunday Times Driving magazine in which he claimed that he reached 180mph while driving down the Sulby Straight whilst test driving the Aston Martin Vanquish Carbon Edition.
The Sulby Straight is an area of the Isle of Man TT course that Martin has seen on a number of occasions in his career, however most frequently it is usually on two wheels and on a closed circuit. The car, costing £203,000 "saw 180mph" and "wasn't even in top gear", according to the 33-year-old hero to many. The Grimsby rider hastened to add "As soon as I passed Union Mills, on to a section with no speed limit, I thought: 'Right, let's have it'", evidently clarifying that he wasn't in breach of any laws on the Island.
The review, published in early April has generated a lot of interest on the Isle of Man, with police Inspector Derek Flint confirming "we are making some inquiries". On the Isle of Man as well as in the worldwide biking community, Guy Martin is a household name. Thanks to Channel 4 television shows such as as Speed and Our Guy in India he has recently been tipped to present Top Gear following the departure of Jeremy Clarkson - and as demonstrated in this instance he certainly has a need to not only go fast, but also push boundaries.
