MCE BSB: Oulton Park - Round Three - Race Two

MCE Insurance Shane Byrne has claimed his first win of the 2017 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park. It was to be an action-packed race which saw Championship leader Leon Haslam dramatically crash out after making contact with James Ellison who suffered a technical issue, prematurely ending both of their races.

It was Haslam who once again made the best start with Jason O'Halloran, Ellison and Byrne in the chasing pack. O'Halloran successfully hit the front on the second lap - however, Ellison was able to spoil his fun and snatch the lead away soon after.

Byrne began to close in on Ellison over the following laps and on the sixth made his move and made it stick running into Shell Oils corner. Byrne appeared to have the pace to storm away at the front, and with O'Halloran and the JG Speedfit Kawasaki riders of Haslam and Mossey trading blows for a podium spot he was able to maintain a steady rhythm in front.

As Iddon, Brookes, Irwin and Hickman joined in the fight, Haslam slipped away and started to pressure Ellison for the second place spot. The Championship leader seemed to have the pace to get past Ellison, however disaster struck as the Kawasaki clipped the back of Ellison's suddenly slowing Yamaha, crashing spectacularly as a result and sidelining Ellison in the process.

With two podium positions becoming available a final scrap ensued with five riders sensing the opportunity. Iddon dropped back into fourth as Irwin and O'Halloran pushed to claim the final two spots, Mossey finished in fifth, holding off Brookes and Hickman. Bridewell, Hopkins and McConnell completed the top ten.
