MCE BSB: Snetterton - Round Five - Race One

MCE Insurance Shane 'Shakey' Byrne has returned to the top step of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, holding off Josh Brookes and Jason O'Halloran to bag the first win at Snetterton.

It was Leon Haslam who got the holeshot ahead of James Ellison, however the McAMS Yamaha was able to take the lead and set the pace. Byrne, who started on pole, dropped back to fourth and had to fight his way back through the pack taking third from Dan Linfoot by only the second lap.

Byrne hasn't been lacking in pace all weekend and was able to out drag Haslam and take second from him heading into Riches. Ellison was next up on Byrne's radar and he took advantage of a mistake from the Yamaha rider and took first.

Ellison tried to apply the pressure, but he was forced to retire from the race after suffering a technical problem and lost out on some much needed points in securing a showdown spot.

Byrne looked comfortable in first and a battle soon developed between O'Halloran and a closing in Brookes for the final two podium spots. Brookes went ahead on lap seven and set about trying to close down Byrne, however the reigning champ was able to pull the pin and took the win.

Haslam finished in fourth position, a great performance from the returning rider, followed by Dan Linfoot and Jake Dixon. Hickman, Hopkins, Ray and Guintoli completed the top ten.
