Rossi: 'Marquez would prefer Lorenzo to win'
This weekend the MotoGP championship hits Malaysia where Rossi currently has an 11 point advantage over teammate and rival Jorge Lorenzo. Lorenzo was able to narrow the margin at Phillip Island and will head into this weekend hoping to do the same.
This morning's press conference was centred around Rossi, however he was more concerned with Marquez's actions during Phillip Island then Lorenzo's and he certainly didn't keep his opinions private. The Italian declared that "It's clear that Lorenzo now has a new supporter" as Marquez "was a step above everyone, but instead of trying to battle Lorenzo, he stayed with me to fight with Iannone and others."
When asked why he believes this he replied "Because he would prefer Lorenzo to win. He is angry at me for a personal matter", the personal matter in question will surely be Argentina and Assen and since said events Marquez has "been angry and thinking like a child".
Rossi went on to discuss whether Marquez ever idolised him at all like many stories tell: "Did he really idolise me? Did he really have my poster at home? I'm not so sure. I'd like to go back in time and see".
Marquez strenuously denied all claims, and Lorenzo even quipped that "for sure he didn't help me on the last lap!" having overtaken him in the final stages. We shall see this weekend in Malaysia if Rossi's thoughts are true; however one thing is clear, the gloves are off!
