Round 1 - MCE British Superbike Championship - Silverstone - Race One

MCE Insurance Michael Laverty walked away from the first race of the 2016 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship victorious, closely followed by Shane 'Shakey' Byrne in second.

It was O'Halloran who made the best start, however Leon Haslam was keen to show the paddock that he means business, quickly snatching first position back off the Honda rider. It was Laverty who then forced his way to the front and controlled the race with the action unfolding behind him.

Haslam's return to the championship was sadly short lived; being forced out of the race by a technical problem a lap later.

Byrne worked his way through the pack up to second place, pushing Linfoot back to third and putting pressure on Laverty in the closing stages of the race. However the Tyco BMW rider was able to hold on to the lead and take the first win of 2016.

Behind the duo the likes of Mossey, O'Halloran, Linfoot and Iddon were all battling it out for the final podium position, of which Iddon emerged victorious and bagged his first ever podium finish in the MCE BSB in the process.

Mossey finished fourth, followed by Linfoot and O'Halloran. Danny Buchan took seventh, with Jackson, Hopkins and Bridewell making up the top ten.
