The Kawasaki H2 - First Review
It seems that every decade has their superbike, the pin up model that revolutionises the market, the bike that every teenager wants on their bedroom wall. There's the NC30 of the 80's, the Ducati of the 90's and the GSXR of the 00's. Halfway through the 10's, the Kawasaki H2 is surely a firm favourite to go down in history with the prestige and respect that these names hold.
Anyone who visited a bike show in the last year will tell you, there's just something about the bike that draws attention. From the fairings - or should we say lack of them - revealing the beastly 998cc supercharged engine, to the dyno-displays demonstrating the incredible sounds that this bike can make, it's certainly a bike that's gained attention. The question is, with MCN providing a world first test review, how does the bike perform?
Adam Child starts by asking can the H2 meet Kawasaki's promises, as well as the high expectations of the fans. The answer seems to be a resounding yes, proclaiming that even before he "left the pit lane" he was falling for the bike. He comments on the "surge of power" which he describes as "vicious" and the strength of the acceleration in third, fourth and fifth gear. The lucky tester says he likes that the bike "isn't effortless to ride" and requires a bit of attention, he says the bike "snarls back" which gives the feeling of taming a beast.
He concludes with "if you want one of the most exciting road bikes ever built - this is it", and based on the review provided in full below, it's hard to argue. Where the ZX-10R would most likely have the quickest lap times, as well as better handling due to the lighter model, the H2 seems to represent everything that most love in bikes. That being the excitement and sheer awe generated from them, before the tests even happened the bike encapsulated that feeling, and after them?
