Wanksy Paints Penises to Tackle the Pothole Problem
Motorcyclists nationwide have inevitably cursed a pothole or two in their riding career, being one hastily avoided or the judder inflicted when one is not so lucky. Many travel down the same roads everyday and sadly see the same potholes, however one graffiti artist in Greater Manchester has decided to tackle the issue head on.
The artist, identity unknown, has named himself 'Wanksy' after the famous artist Banksy, and his signature tag is painting the outline of a penis around potholes. The artist decided on his one man mission to bring attention to potholes after a number of his cyclist friends were injured because of them.
On why he chose a giant penis he commented "it seems to have become my signature and I just want to make people smile and draw attention to the problem". The phallus is painted onto the floor in non-permanent paint and takes up to a fortnight to wash away, and more often than not, he says, the pot hole is fixed within this period.
A council spokesman from Greater Manchester told the Evening News that "not only is this vandalism, but it's also counter-productive, as every penny that we have to spend cleaning off this graffiti is a penny less than we have to spend on actually repairing the potholes."
This statement is undoubtedly true, however 'Wanksy' is drawing attention to a problem that many of us have faced. His action, however immature it is perceived by some has forced council members to comment and in some cases action to be taken, which is undeniably a positive thing.
