Yamaha introduce the MotoBot

MCE Insurance Yamaha have announced that they are working on a robot that could soon put the likes of Valentino Rossi to the test. Announced at the Tokyo Motor Show the robo-rider is said to see things from "a human rider's stand point - with no modifications made to the motorcycle itself".

Named the 'Yamaha Motobot' will sit on an unmodified motorcycle and be able to use the throttle, pedal, clutch, brake lever and transmission, as well as have full control over steering. The robot is designed to adjust its position on the motorcycle to resemble that of a human rider to make it more streamlined and efficient.

Still in the early stages of development the 'Motobot' will apparently be able to blast around a track of upwards of 200km/h when fully functioning. It will also have what seems to be Artificial Intelligence in the sense of it will rely on GPS sensors to get around the track; however it will decide on the best lines to take to make sure it gets around the track as quick as possible and evolve as it experiences the track further.

Motobot had the following to say, aimed at Rossi: "I am Motobot. I was created to surpass you. I am improving my skills every day but I am not sure I could even beat the five-year-old you. Perhaps if I learn everything about you, I will be able to catch up".
