MCE BSB: Oulton Park - Round Ten - Race One

MCE Insurance Leon Haslam has bagged the opening race at Oulton Park, moving to the top of the standings in the first race of the MCE BSB Showdown.

Showdown contender Jake Dixon was forced to start from pit lane after a crash in warm up left the RAF Regular and Reserves Kawasaki team working hard to rebuild the bike, only able to get it sorted following the warm up lap. The 21-year-old, quickly making a name for himself and adding credibility to his Championship hopes, put in an incredible effort and stormed through the pack into a fantastic fourth place finish.

It was Linfoot who got the holeshot, leading the opening lap from Brookes, Byrne, Hickman and Haslam. The riders fought for a second-place spot as Linfoot began to create a gap - with Brookes, Hickman and Iddon all holding the spot for a period in the opening laps.

Hopkins had a strong race and forced his way into third with his eyes on second from Iddon, who ran wide and was forced through the chicane, but still kept hold of the second-place spot. Iddon's race came to a premature end on the tenth lap when he crashed out unhurt and put Hopkins and Haslam into podium contention.

Linfoot retired from the lead on the 15th lap with an issue with his Fireblade, a disappointing end for the rider who looked comfortable leading the race for the distance. This put Haslam into the lead following a move on Hopkins just a lap earlier.

Josh Brookes finished in third to complete the podium. Jake Dixon finished fourth, followed by Ellison and Laverty. Ray, Hickman, Byrne and O'Halloran completed the top ten.
