MCE BSB: Thruxton - Round Seven - Race Two

MCE Insurance Peter Hickman has gone one better than his second place finish in race one as the Smiths Racing BMW team celebrate their debut win in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship.

Once again it was Jake Dixon who fired off the line to lead Hickman and Brookes on the opening lap with it all to play for.

By lap two Byrne was up to second and hoping to get an early advantage and return to the podium to bag some invaluable podium points as the showdown approaches. Bradley Ray had a strong race in the top ten before going slightly off line and prematurely ending his race.

Byrne and Dixon had a fantastic exchange in a fight for the lead, with Byrne hitting the front but Dixon ready to fight and regaining the lead in a strong move at the chicane. Byrne gave as good as he got, however, and regained the lead in the same spot just one lap later. This battle meant that Hickman had caught up and was able to get involved, taking the lead on lap eight.

Brookes had a strong race and worked his way up to second whilst Byrne went in the other direction with tyre issues, forcing him to retire from the race. Brookes took the lead and looked in control until the penultimate lap when he crashed out unhurt, leaving Hickman with a strong enough lead to go on to take the win. Dixon finished in second place, 0.6044s behind the winner, with Leon Haslam taking third.

Iddon, O'Halloran and Jessopp followed, with Jackson, Guintoli, Ellison and Smrz making up the top ten.
