Round 7 - MCE British Superbike Championship - Brands Hatch GP - Race One

MCE Insurance Despite a disastrous start, Shane 'Shakey' Byrne emerged victorious in race one, valiantly holding off Leon Haslam in the final lap.

Byrne completely mistimed his start and dropped back to ninth on the first lap, however it was clear from previous sessions this weekend that the Ducati rider and four-time champ had the pace to make his way through the leading pack.

Mossey got off to the best start, with Bridewell and Haslam hot on his heels on the second lap. In the following few laps Byrne had made his way up to fifth and battled with O'Halloran for fourth, Byrne got the lead and completed the lap just as the safety car was deployed due to Filip Backlund having a hugh crash at Clearways - the rider thankfully walked away unhurt.

Bridewell took the lead from Mossey who was evidently unwilling to give it up judging by his defensive lines, Haslam then made a move on the Quattro Plant Kawasaki rider and pushed him back to third.

By the eleventh lap Byrne had taken third and Haslam and Bridewell swapped places on a number of occasions battling for the top spot. Haslam went to make a move and ran wide, opening the door for Byrne to steal second from him. Byrne and Bridewell then had a fantastic battle at Druids with Bridewell demonstrating his determination, unwilling to give up the lead he had worked hard to obtain. Byrne however made an overtake stick and soon after Bridewell crashed out unhurt.

Byrne took the win, with Haslam and Mossey joining him on the podium. O'Halloran finished fourth, followed by Jackson Parkes and Linfoot. Cooper Iddon and Ellison made up the top ten.
