Potential Crackdown on Speeding?
The Evening Standard have published an interesting article this week, regarding a proposed Police policy that could see motorists punished for exceeding the speed limit by as little as 1mph.
Chief Constable of West Mercia Police, Anthony Bangham, states the proposed policy will ensure a ‘greater consistency of approach when dealing with those who exceed the speed limit’, opposed to the current ‘buffer zone’ method of ‘ten percent plus two mph’ – which means that, in theory, motorists could go up to 34mph in a build-up area, and as fast as 78mph on a motorway with no consequence.
It’s certainly grabbed the attention of motorists across the country, with many stating not only will the policy be difficult to enforce, but this zero-tolerance approach risks accusations that the public are being treated as a ‘cash cow’, and a degree of leniency should be expected.
Here at MCE, we can see both sides of the argument, but we would like to hear from you - do you think there should be tighter restrictions on speeding, or is it a case of if it ain't broke don't fix it?
