500 fraudulent insurance applications a day

Figures have been released highlighting the numbers of fraudulent motor insurance applications in the UK and shockingly that number sits at nearly 500.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has revealed that in 2013 UK insurers detected 180,675 attempted fraudulent applications for motor insurance, that's almost 3,500 per week.

These cases mainly involve motorists lying about or knowingly failing to disclose important information required by insurers such as unspent motoring convictions and previous claims. Motorists believe by not disclosing these items they will get cheaper cover where really if they are straight and honest with insurers they will get the best deal suited to them. Rising motoring costs are to blame as people try to find ways to save money, in turn though they are actually causing premiums to rise as many wouldn't be covered because of the un-disclosed information.

The ABI has said that the best way to get the best deal is to be honest with your insurer. Don't get caught out when you need your insurance most, because if you've lied on your application, you won't be covered.
