Marquez Triumphs in Indianapolis

This weekend the MotoGP championship hit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway after a three week break, it was a welcome return for the many fans that had been missing the action of the incredibly interesting championship so far. Valentino Rossi entered the weekend with the lead over teammate Lorenzo; however the Spaniard got the best start of the two sharing the wins in the free practice sessions with fellow countryman Marquez.

In qualifying Marc Marquez bagged his third pole position in a row at the Indianapolis circuit, followed by teammate Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo making up the front row. Current championship leader Rossi started in 8th place, however with two wins from that position in 2015 already; the rider is always one to watch on race day.

The race went the way of Marquez who showed great composure in stalking second place finisher Lorenzo for the majority of the race before making his move. The thrilling battle was one to remember with Marquez demonstrating that his 2015 season isn't a complete write off with a commanding victory. Valentino Rossi finished in third position able to make his way through the pack and pick off Dani Pedrosa, however not without a fight with the Honda rider overtaking in the closing few laps, yet Rossi was able to find a way through and bag his 13th consecutive podium in the series.

Ducati rider Andrea Iannone finished in 5th place, significantly better than his teammate Dovizioso who dropped to the back of the pack in the first lap, however managed to salvage the race somewhat finishing in 9th. Bradley smith finished in 6th followed by Pol Espargaro and Cal Crutchlow.

With regards to the championship Lorenzo is still hot on Rossi's heels gaining four points on the Yamaha rider over the weekend. However Marquez can surely never be ruled out with an extremely mature approach to the race with regards to both tyre conservation as well as following Lorenzo for the majority of the race until he felt comfortable to lead and defend the position once there. Next week the championship heads to Brno and going off the season so far it's going to be full of twists and turns as the season gains momentum!
