Round 1 - MCE British Superbike Championship - Silverstone - Race Two

MCE Insurance Peter Hickman has won the second race of the 2016 MCE Insurance British Superbike series in an enthralling race which saw him pip Shane 'Shakey' Byrne to the top spot by a slight 0.009s.

Hickman led after the first lap followed by Laverty, Linfoot, O'Halloran, Buchan and Byrne. Byrne was quick to attack, however and forced his way up to fourth in the next few laps.

Laverty was after the double and forced his way into first, but Hickman was a man on a mission and clearly had a first place finish in his sights. After taking the lead once again Laverty could not fire anything back with what looked like a braking issue, gradually disappearing through the chasing pack and having to settle for a sixth place finish.

Byrne was quick to show Hickman that he meant business, in the press conference following the race the JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider commented on how loud and intimidating the four-time champ's exhaust is, especially when it's right on his rear.

On the very final lap Byrne took the lead, but Hickman instantly fought back and snatched the position back off the PBM Ducati rider as they raced to the line, with Byrne's bike drifting dramatically in the process.

Iddon took another podium, finishing third, followed by O'Halloran, Haslam, Laverty, Jackson, Ellison, Linfoot and Mossey making up the top ten.
