Stuart Easton announces retirement

MCE Insurance Stuart Easton has announced that he decided to retire, bringing to an end an eighteen-year career with two British Supersport titles and four Macau Grand Prix wins to his name.

The 33-year-old's retirement will be effective immediately and he plans to help in running his family business, as well as spend some more time with his wife and two sons.

The rider, affectionately nicknamed 'Rat boy' is well aware of the risks in racing on both the track and on roads, suffering from two major injuries in his career - at the NW200 in 2011 and at Brands Hatch in 2015 - however the resilient and determined rider returned on both occasions.

Riders and fans turned to Twitter to show their sadness that the rider is set to retire:

Cal Crutchlow said: 'One off the best riders I have ever had the privilege to have shared a track with has retired @Stuarteaston3 ! Now time for another kid Rat...'

Niall Mackenzie said: 'A career to be proud of young @Stuarteaston3 but more importantly a great bloke loved by all'

Michael Laverty said: 'Sad to see @Stuarteaston3 hang up his leathers, a talent, a gentleman and a fighter who has been through the rigours!'

James Ellison said: 'Such a shame @Stuarteaston3 is retiring! Had some great battles kid and wish you luck in whatever you do next.'

Dan Linfoot said: 'Good luck Ratboy with your decision to retire from racing. Big respect. #topbloke'
