MCE BSB: Cadwell Park - Round Eight - Race Two

MCE Insurance James Ellison returned to the top step of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship in today's race two, becoming the seventh different race winner so far this season, still with four rounds remaining.

The race, full of twists and turns, began with Jackson starting from pole position and having a strong start which saw him lead Dixon, Byrne and Hickman in the opening laps. Ellison had a moment and was made to run on through the chicane leaving him with some work to do.

Dixon took the lead on lap five and began to set a blisteringly fast pace, it was to be Jackson who smashed the lap record on lap eight, however. Dixon was unable to add to his two MCE BSB race wins, crashing out on lap nine and leaving him with some work to do at Silverstone as he chases a top six showdown spot.

The action continued as the race progressed, with Byrne able to make a move on Jackson and control the race for a couple of laps, however a technical issue brought the defending champion's race to a premature end. Byrne's retirement marks the first time that none of the six Showdown riders have been confirmed ahead of the final round of the Main Season.

Haslam was unable to capitalise on Byrne's misfortune, however, making a move on Hickman on the very same lap but crashing out unhurt and unable to bag some vital podium points as the showdown approaches.

The leading trio of Jackson, Ellison and Hickman were left to fight it out for their podium positions. With three laps to go Ellison made the move on Jackson and made it stick, passing the chequered flag with Jackson 0.696s behind and Hickman completing the podium.

O'Halloran, Iddon and Bridewell made up the top six. Brookes, Laverty, Irwin and Guintoli completed the top ten.
