MCE BSB: Brands Hatch GP - Round Six - Race One

MCE Insurance Shane 'Shakey' Byrne has bagged the opening race here at Brands Hatch in an enthralling opener brought to a premature end due to rain fall on the closing laps.

It was Luke Mossey who got the holeshot, followed by Josh Brookes and Dan Linfoot. Byrne sat in sixth position in the early stages, however it was clear he had the pace to attack at his home circuit.

Byrne attempted a pass on Haslam on lap five, but couldn't make it stick and ended up dropping back three places. Brookes and Mossey were swapping places for the first place spot, but it was to be Mossey who held the lead.

Shaun Winfield crashed out unhurt, causing the Safety car to be deployed and bunch the pack up again, useful for Byrne who was caught up in traffic.

When the action restarted Hickman and Linfoot made a move, the latter leading by the end of the lap followed by Mossey and Hickman.

Hickman then took the lead and pushed Linfoot back a spot, the Honda Racing rider then engaging in a battle with Mossey who he was able to fend off.

Linfoot regained the lead on lap 16, however by this point Byrne had pulled the pin and was working his way through the pack, taking the lead with two laps remaining. Linfoot was unable to respond when the red flag was brought out bringing the race to a close.

Haslam returned to the podium, holding off Hickman and Brookes and scoring some vital podium points.

Ellison, O'Halloran, Iddon, Hopkins and Bradley Ray completed the top ten.
