For a third year running, the final round of the MCE Insurance British Superbikes Showdown attracted a record breaking 50,000 fans to Brands Hatch GP circuit where Shane 'Shakey' Byrne was crowned the 2012 Champion for the third time in his British Superbike career.

Shakey lead the standings throughout the showdown, followed closely by Josh Brookes in the final three races. On the opening lap of race three, bad boy Brookes took the lead from his rival Byrne and held first place for the majority of the race. In the penultimate lap, the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider closed the gap and moved up the inside of Brookes at Pilgrims Drop to score the race win and grab the 2012 MCE BSB Championship title trophy with both hands (see picture right).

A fired up Julian Edwards, MCE's Group Chief Executive commented: "To have such a huge record breaking crowd at Brands Hatch is great testament to the appeal of the UK's number one motorsport series. The Showdown continues to make the championship all the more exciting, proven by the vast number of fans voting with their feet and turning out as never before. In the end, Shane Byrne deserved the crown - no rider or spectator can dispute that."
