Filip Backlund is set to kick off his 2016 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship this weekend at Oulton Park, having been forced to sit out of the first round at Silverstone after sustaining a broken collarbone in pre-season testing.
The Quattro Plant Cool Kawasaki rider seemed to be going from strength to strength on the bike and was understandably disappointed to miss out on the action earlier this month.
The Swedish rider completed over fifty laps at last week's official test and seems to be eager to return to the championship: 'I am very happy with how it went at the test. We didn't go there primarily to set fast times but to test the shoulder and get my confidence back, and on those points, I'm very happy with how I was riding. Pain with the shoulder is not a problem at all, which is amazing after just three weeks. We just need to get the muscles to react a little better, but I had a good day and feel strong after riding so many laps.
'Oulton will be my first racing weekend of the season, but Luke [Mossey] has already shown how good the package is on our ZX-10R, so I will take a similar direction and look to score some solid points. It's a step-by-step process, but as I say, the bike is good, and when I'm one hundred percent fit I know I can be back up where I was in the early test at Silverstone.'
