Marquez wins 2016 MotoGP Championship

MCE Insurance Marc Marquez has stormed to victory at the 2016 Japanese Grand Prix, and in the process bagged the 2016 MotoGP World Championship.

The chances of Marquez winning the championship this early on in the season seemed unlikely at the start of the weekend, however Yamaha teammates and title contenders Rossi and Lorenzo both crashed out in separate incidents and in the process ended their title chances. This is the first time in their seven years as teammates that both riders have failed to finish the same race.

The Spaniard knew when Rossi crashed out that Lorenzo was the man to beat, and if the Yamaha rider finished in fourth or above then the title will be Marquez's, providing that he won.

However Lorenzo crashed out with three laps remaining following pressure from Dovizioso, handing the title to Marquez.

Dovi and Vinales joined the World Champion on the podium, followed by Aleix Espargaro, Crutchlow and Pol Espargaro. Bautista, Petrucci, Redding and Bradl made up the top ten.
