Smith joins KTM for 2017 MotoGP campaign

MCE Insurance It has today been announced that KTM have signed Bradley Smith to kick start their 2017 MotoGP season. Smith joined the MotoGP paddock with Tech 3 Yamaha in 2013 and has remained with the team ever since.

The rider was the top satellite rider in last year's championship, finishing in sixth position with a best result of second place following a bold move to stay out on track on slick tyres in the wet at San Marino.

Smith was told earlier on this year that there would not be a place for him at Tech 3 in 2017, as they intend to continue their goal to nurture young talent and develop future stars in the premier class.

KTM Motorsport Director, Pit Beirer said: 'The MotoGP project is running exactly according to plan. Both the engineers at the factory and the test team are achieving highly professional work with two bikes and their test riders. By signing Bradley Smith as factory rider for two years we can now take the next step in the long journey to MotoGP.

'At just 25, Bradley (Smith) is competing in his fourth season in the premiere class. He rode his way to second place in Misano and last season as overall sixth, he was clearly the best rider among all the customer teams.'
