MCE Insurance

The World Superbike championship went to Assen last week and in a very wet race 2 MCE Insurance British Superbike Champion Alex Lowes took his first podium on the Crescent Suzuki.

Riders lined up on the track for race 2 and the rain started to pour. The start was postponed as many riders changed from slick tyres onto wets. The race was re-started as a 15 lapper and declared a full wet race. They started and ran a few laps then the rain continued to worsen so it was red flagged.

The race was then restarted for the second time with the distance shortened to just ten laps. Lowes showed great pace and worked his way through the field past the likes of Melandri and Sykes. Eventually he only had fellow Brit Jonny Rea in front of him but the Honda man was too far ahead for the British champion to catch and he finished on the second step of the podium.

Lowes now looks ahead to the next round in Imola and hopes to better his Assen result.
