Round 11 - MCE British Superbike Championship - Silverstone - Qualifying

MCE Insurance

This weekend the MCE British Superbike series hits Silverstone for the penultimate round of the championship. In Friday's two free practice sessions the time sheets were topped by John Hopkins and Michael Laverty who were out to prove that they mean business and were both hoping to break Josh Brookes' stride as early as possible.

When Saturday rolled around the fans descended on the circuit to see their heroes do battle and didn't have long to wait with the final free practice session greeting them upon arrival. It was Josh Brookes who was able to fire himself to the top of the time sheets in an incredible session that saw the top ten riders lap under the existing lap record. Showdown contender Ellison finished second and Brookes' Milwaukee Yamaha teammate Smrz made up the top three. Shane Byrne finished in 6th position and over one second off the pace his rival Brookes was setting.

Club MCE members kept busy between free practice and qualifying, roaring around Silverstone in pillion and safety car laps only available to MCE Insurance customers. James Ellison also stopped by the MCE tent to discuss his title hopes and weekends plans, mainly how he hopes to dampen Brookes' dominance when race day rolls around tomorrow!

When qualifying roared into life it was Josh Brookes who triumphed overall and in the process set the fastest ever Superbike lap of Silverstone with a blisteringly fast 2m:03:984s that many doubted was possible outside of the MotoGP class. John Hopkins continued to push his Ducati to the limit and bagged himself a second place start on the grid tomorrow, Christian Iddon will join him on the front row, who delivered his best qualifying performance of the season. Ellison, Mossey and Smrz made up the second row, followed by Hickman, Laverty and Linfoot.

Shane Byrne finished in 10th position which will make life difficult for him tomorrow in race one, however he seemed upbeat following the race, reassuring any doubters that he has something in the bag for race day, and here at MCE Insurance we can't wait to see how events unfold! Things are heating up here at Silverstone, tomorrow could dictate the outcome of the MCE BSB season, Brookes looks in control, however as we know, anything can happen!
